Now I've been so lucky to have a hit record
Been number 1 so many times that I've lost count
Just finished up a gruelling world wide tour
But everybody’s shouting they want more
I find myself in demand now much more than ever

You can be an overnight worldwide success story
But when will this madness end, when will it end?
I let them use and cover it on Glee
And then they go misinterpret me
Been interviewed so many times I can't remember

But you didn't have to piss me off
Take my record sing it change it like it doesn't mean nothing
I'm grateful you like it so much
But it doesn't feel like mine now and that is so rough
Had no idea where it would go
And I'm pleased that it has won me all this recognition
Wish it felt like my track though
Now I've lost somebody that I used to know

I wonder after this if it will all be over
Will another track of mine have the success of this one?
Will you hear it every day?
All the radio stations will play?
And could I really let it go?
If another track does as well as Somebody That I Used to Know?

And would it really piss me off?
Take my record sing it change it like it doesn't mean nothing
Would they like it quite as much?
Or would they all ignore and diss it that's so rough
Would they wish that Gotye would go
Go down into music history as a one hit wonder
They still stole my track though
When they took somebody that I used to know
